Rear End Housing finish/color???

I am restoring a '69 and not sure how to refinish the rear axle housing?

What was the factory finish?

Is there a website or book that explains proper factory finish for proper restoration?

Either semi-gloss black paint or "natural" finish are acceptable, but most paint it; there's an appendix in the back of Jerry MacNeish's book that details the correct finish for just about all components.
