Obviously not a Trans-Am car but a cool piece of Chevrolet racing history nonetheless. There is a great issue of HOT ROD magazine out right now featuring Tom's Z06 and the reinstallation of a Mk II Mystery Motor, which is how the car was originally raced at Daytona back in 1963. Lots of great history to read up on.

Also, for those hoping they could see it in person, Tom says it will be on display at the HOT ROD Magazine booth at SEMA next week. It is in CENTRAL HALL, Booth 22743 right across from Edelbrock. From what I understand HOT ROD will give you a free issue when you stop by and see the car.

Is this the one that had the MT cast Aluminum differential case with the cooling fittings? Like a one off piece... I read about it at least 25 years ago - probably closer to 30+.

I don't know. I'll ask Tom for you.

Wow, I had realized any GS's were converted to BB's that early.

Tom's Corvette is not a Grand Sport, it is a Z06.

Thanks for the link to the MKII Mystery Motor article, Bentley.

Here are pics of the magnesium (not aluminum) Mickey Thompson differential and the original foundry molds, courtesy of Tom McIntyre.

My mistake, Jon. I do know the difference but guess I was reading into the article as at least one GS was converted.

I know you knew that Doug but still needed to make the clarification for others who might not know.

Here's a picture of the magnesium differential in Tom McIntyre's Z06 when he first got it.

I was fortunate to remember the differential call out in the article that was 30 years ago...

I think it was in a Corvette magazine, mid 80's maybe Corvette Fever?
The article had I think references to the Aluminum SB Heads being developed & maybe information about another car or two, come to think of it, this may have been right after Mickey passed.
