Help with identifying 1967 RS/SS
« on: March 31, 2009, 01:40:48 AM »
I need help identifying a 1967 RS/SS. I have not bought it yet, but this is the cowl tag:
10D
ST 67-12637
TR 732-Z
W 2MGS 3SL
First can someone help decode that, but the problem is the person selling me the car says it is an SS, but it does not have the 4P on the cowl tag. He says they did not put the 4P on the early models. He says the SS is the only one that came with duel exhaust with welded on brackets to hold it, so it this true? If anyone could help I would appreciate it!

I'm short on time - I'll let someone else do the decode.

He's right, early cars didn't get the 4P. But this car should have it. So it was a 327 car originally (assuming V8 VIN).

The paint code says body paint E-E
And assembly plant says LOS 4452

The guy selling me the car says the SS is the only one that came with factory mounted dual exhaust.Does anyone know this to be true? Otherwise is this a true RS? Is the RS a nice car? I have always liked the look of the car I just want to make sure I am getting what I pay for.

Lisa -

E-E   =  Deepwater Blue
LOS  =  Van Nuys assembly plant.  Van Nuys started using the 4P code on the SS350 cars in September, so assuming the cowl tag is original this car is not an original SS.

The guy selling me the car says the SS is the only one that came with factory mounted dual exhaust. Does anyone know this to be true?

Yes, dual exhaust was standard on SS models; but it was available as an option with the 327cid engines as well.

Otherwise is this a true RS?

Once again, assuming the cowl tag is original to the car it is a true RS.  If you could post a good photo of the cowl tag it could be evaluated here.

I have always liked the look of the car I just want to make sure I am getting what I pay for.

As it stands now the car was originally a Rally Sport with a 327, so make sure you're paying for a '67 RS and not a '67 RS/SS!  Good luck.

This is web address with the picture of the car, and cowl tag. I paid 14,100.00 for it, is this a good price in your honest opinion?

As for price, you gave about $4k more than what I would have wanted to give considering the car is not an SS. Other than the fact it is not an SS there are a lot of things that need corrected and can get expensive to fix. I know of a #'s matching SS car locally that needed nothing that just sold for $20k, it was a loaded car with a/c, RS, tilt, tach & gauges, dlx interior......etc... I am not a lawyer but I would try and back out of this deal as this guy has misrepresented this car as being a true SS. One thing I want to know is why you are waiting until AFTER the auction to ask these questions? Everything could have been answered on the CRG homepage, and most of it answered here, especially the exhaust:  http://camaros.org/diffs67.shtml   . I wonder what he is talking about the "welded" brackets for dual exhausts?.......................RatPack....................
Just keep livin......L I V I N .............
