Fuel Pump AC 491 3580 with 10 flat head screws.....

Anyone have an idea of the application of this pumpand why are 10 flathead screws used to attach the base of the pump to the main body???  Thanks!!  Ted

Most pre-'67 fuel pumps were multi-piece, screwed together; photos below are a 40083 pump, used in '66, the last year before the crimped pumps were introduced.

I have a old pump that i have had for years.  On the flange it has 40083 and the other edge has 497.   Does not have AC on pump. I beleive i bought it in the 80's . What application would this pump be for? Also what does the 497 mean?  Is this a service replacment?

Most likely an AC-Delco service replacement made by Airtex; AC hasn't made fuel pumps for over 30 years. AC-Delco contracted them to Airtex and sold them in AC-Delco boxes. The 40083 pump had LOTS of applications, including '66 Corvette 327's.
