Mark's 68 L78 RS SS

The steering in my 68 is very sloppy. Is this just a marginal design from the factory or are there some things in the steering and front suspension that I should be looking at? Is there a way to tighten up the steering while maintaining everything stock or at least easily able to go back to factory correct?

Thank you,

Mark

A 1st Gen stock Camaro isn't going to handle as well as a performance car of today.  My daily driver (which I bought new) is a '95 Z28 that handles significantly better than my '69RS which is totally stock but does have N40 power steering and N44 special steering, quick ratio option.  However, to get the best out of the stock setup, start by ensuring that everything with the suspension is pristene, i.e. back to basics: good ball joints, tie rod ends, relay rod, end links, etc.  Also, RPO N44 helps (2.2 turns lock to lock).  See following link for the best overall 1st Gen suspension / steering write up I've come across:  http://www.pozziracing.com/first_gen_suspension.htm.

Especially pay attention to the section on steering:  http://www.pozziracing.com/camaro_steering.htm#Steering_linkage
