Synthetic oil or not

+1 on not using synthetic gear oil in a Muncie.  Synthetic leaked past the seals more than the GL-4 conventional gear oil I put back in there.

I think I remember a few years ago Porsche sending out a memo regarding Mobil1 in Porsches that sit for long periods of time. The memo was basically saying that Mobil1 did not cling to surfaces for long periods of time like non synthetics. They recommended doing something other than Mobil 1 if your car sat for long periods of time.
