Your car was final assembled on or about Wednesday March 5. The axle plant was about 260 miles from Norwood. Possible but it's a real stretch.

I definitely think it's original. :)
That's based on data from other cars built at the same time.

I would have thought that axle date would have been too close to vehicle assembly - but there are a few other cars with very "tight" axle dates around that time.

Definitely not the "norm". Must have gone almost right from the train into that car. 😀

Thanks for all the input. Nice knowing complete drivetrain is original.

That's the same rough number of days between assemblies, but not likely the normal spread across the board.  More common axle ratios often have dates close to car assembly date.  But even that will vary through the year.   My early 68 has about a one month separation, but that's a 3.73 rear and not a lot were produced early in the 68 model year.

My '69 02D car (606402) was built about five days ahead of yours - mine was shipped on February 28th, and the "BV" axle is dated February 19th.

The car build date is 02D fouth week of Feb.
Axle build date is 0303 March 3 does that not make the axle build date about a week after the axle build date?

bcmiller

Fourth week of February is when building of the car STARTED.

Read the other posts in this thread - please. :)

Axle dates seem to be the closest to vehicle assembly.

The 10D 69 Z I restored had a 11A Vin and a 10 31 axle date.

It depends a lot on ratio and dates are not ALWAYS close. There is variation.

Depends on when. Mid-69 axles are very close to the build date. Other times, dates are more spread out.
