My 69 RS/Z28 is 02D with 608332 as sequence number. A 1969 RS/Z28 I'm building is 02D with 608273 as sequence number. Basically Feb 4th week 59 cars apart and possibly built same day. The third Z28 is 03B and sequence number 650320. (2 weeks later) All Norwood cars. Did GM jump 50k at the beginning of each new month or why the huge difference? We basically know each factory produced an average of 120 cars a day. Thanks for your help.

I am sure they built a lot more then 120 a day?
Los factory was making multiple car lines mixed in with Camaro's  so they produced a lot less. However Norwood was a full camaro line and produced a lot more then 120 Camaro's a day.

I believe it's not that uncommon to have body numbers out of sequence from vin...sometime there could be issues with getting certain parts....although 42,047 does seem like a lot.

THE NORWOOD PLANT WAS BUILDING AROUND 57 CARS AN HOUR AND THEY RAN 2 SHIFTS

If your N650320 Z/28 really has an 03B tag, one of the tags is not original to the car. Can you post pics of both?

03B cars were final-assembled March 14-March 20. VIN range N614xxx-N617xxx.

N650xxx cars were final-assembled May 29-June 3. Most if not all 05E tag date.

If it was a customer ordered car, wouldn't it have been moved up in the schedule??

Thank you guys so much for the help. Gonna dig some more on the March car and try to figure it out. I have known this car since 1976 but who knows what could have happened before that.

VINs increment with body tag date. Last six digits were assigned as the completed body assembly was received at the assembly plant. No way an 03B body could be assigned an N650xxx VIN. Back in 1976, no one knew what X33 meant so there would not be a reason to swap out the body tag.

You may be able to see a hidden VIN stamping through the right side cowl vent grille.  Should be 9N650320.

Tag at blower and on cowl match Vin number. There's no reason someone would have changed trim tag back in those days. Also 302 engine matches Vin. Color and trim is also correct. The only thing out of whack is the date.

Can you post pictures of the 608273 tag and the 03B tag?
Way easier to solve with pictures. ;)
