Tail light socket 1969 non RS

Were the tail/brake light sockets always brown? Were they ever black? The other 2 are white. Thank you, Joe

I thought this would be an easy question. I have an 05A car here that has brown & I have a RS harness of unknown & it has brown. Has anybody seen another colour other than brown?....Joe
