I think I have it pretty good. I have a wood stove and propane, ventless heat. Also, a small generator to keep the fridge, coffee maker and tv/dvd going. Life is good.

Yep, you probably have it better than most..   :)

<<I hope you have a safe way to stay warm; be very careful with fuel-based heaters inside.  I KNOW how no power sucks, as I've got more than a week twice, once in/after an ice storm, and another 3 yrs ago after the Tornado day.  A generator is a good thing to have ... but generally you have to HAVE it Before the problem hits and the stores sell out. >>

Been there, done that - installed a 20-KW Generac fully-automatic natural gas standby generator system in the summer of 2003 ( 3 weeks before the famous 3-day "northern grid" failure - timing is everything  :) ) Has kept us nice and comfy many times since then when DTE (Detroit Edison), our Mickey-Mouse electric utility, has gone dead, and we don't even need to be home.  ;D

That is money well spent John!! Guy, I maintain his car collection, has one just like that. Here are few other non-Camaro related pics of general interest: My Tolkheim gas pump and 36 Caddy.

JohnZ definitely did a nice thing with the Generac.. :)    I considered the same unit when I built my home, but I let build schedule and $$ pressures put it off til 'later'...  and we all know how 'later' goes.. :)

JohnZ:  Would you change anything about that if you were doing it over?  the size? or brand? or ??

I live in Minnesota so we have had plenty of snow (40 plus inches so far) and more below zero nights than i can remember. So much for global warming i would say. Well stay warm guys, this cold weather gives us more shop time right ?  :)

Nope, the unit has been quite satisfactory, and has paid for itself more than once. It starts itself up once a week for a ten-minute diagnostic run, and in eleven years all it has required is one starter and a battery.
