Block Casting Numbers?

Is it possible to read the block casting numbers and casting date on the rear of a 327 block while it's still in the engine bay? And take pictures of them? Is it too tight of a fit to stick your head back there to see them? Thanks!

I did it with a small digital camera. It worked great.
