1969 remote outside mirror

I would like to get my remote outside mirror re-chromed on my 1969. How do I get it apart without damaging? All I have done so far is removed it from car and took screw out of bezel that holds it to the base. I got stuck after that.

My memory is a little fuzzy but I seem to remember that the cables need to be disconnected adjustment knob end VERY CAREFULLY.  You will need to reconnect them once the mirror has been rechromed. Try to push them up and out of the staked holder. The cables are spring loaded.
