Hi guys, having shifter problem, muncie M20 in 67 camaro, Hurst comp plus shifter. It used to have a spring action when putting it into reverse
(I assume it is a reverse lock out), now you can move the shifter freely( side to side in neutral) from reverse to 3rd and 4th with no resistance.
Is there a spring that has broken or does the shifter need rebuilt? I have adjusted the rods several times no help.
thanks for any help

I would hazard a guess that is a sping (or two).  I see them offered in the Hurst catalog...  A kit of 4 springs, 2 inner, 2 outer.  I have heard there are also rebuild kits.  Not sure what's included w/ those (springs?).

You could send it to Hurst if you don't have someone locally that rebuilds them.  Here is the link

Take a look at this picture, these springs are what you work against when moving to reverse (note: one of  the roll pins is missing in this picture.)

Or this plunger could be hanging up ? One thing for sure, you will need to take the shifter out. Note: on a working shifter clamped in a vice you can see how it works when moving the handle all the way left in the neutral gate.

May help to look at this for tear down, not the hard. Good luck.
