John, per CRG (as referenced by Joe) 67, 68, and early (pre-May) 69 L6, 302 (Z28), and 307: The standard battery was the Delco Y55. This was a 45-Ahr rated battery with reverse polarity top post terminals. That is, when the terminals are positioned facing rearward in the car, the positive terminal is closest to the fender.  Per the Legends Judging Manual, 1969 Z's that received the Y55 top post battery used the core (radiator) support position for the body ground (same as 1967/8 ground location) rather than the later right inside fender location. There are examples of pre-May production survivor / original cars which contradict this.

That Y55 battery is not correct for a 67-69 and is a later service replacement. Original Y55s and early replacements had the raised "Energizer" script on top.
