Timing

Hey you all,
What's the best way to re-plumb the vacuum advance canister to manifold vacuum from ported vacuum? I've got the distributor out and sent to Jerry for rework so it seems a good time to make the modification. Can I "Y" the pull off hose or do I need to find a fitting to take from the brake booster?

I assume Jerry is providing you with a "B28" vacuum canister?  It's a must to getting the manifold vacuum advance working on a 302, or any low vacuum idle application.  Getting hard to find these days.

I'll check on the B28 canister, I would hope so.
They have received the distributor but have not started processing yet.

I converted to full manifold vacuum on my 68 L30 327 many years ago, but I had to make modifications to support the change.  Initial static timing, vacuum advance canister, mechanical advance springs & limiter - these are the changes that I can think of off the top of my head.  Just making sure that your distributor "rework" includes these modifications.  You can't just solely change the vacuum source.  If you already know all this, please accept my apologies.

There is a great article out there by John Hinckley that was published in Corvette Enthusiast entitled "Timing And Vacuum Advance 101".  If you google search that title you should find the article.

Here is how I did mine, inspired by JohnZ and others. Although I capped after the hard line, just to preserve the visuals of that hose plus hard line under the air cleaner
