I found other threads about this but no overall guidelines about real vs. repopped pulleys.
I wanted to get you guys opinion on this pulley:

I thought the font looked good but I'm questioning the welds that retain the inner support.  I have noticed on crank pulleys that the welds on repops are on the flat face (like above), but on originals they seem to be on the side around the circumference of the mounting flange.  Is that correct and does that also apply to water pump pulleys?

Any feedback appreciated!

John

John, I will be at my shop later today and look my original pulley over real close and get back with you unless someone beats me to it.

My original is welded inside of the pulley, spot welds through the support cup and the outside minor diameter. The one shown above is a reproduction, but a good one - I've seen similar from PartsPlace and other vendors that look like this.

Considering prices for OEM's are usually through the roof, ones like this are usable until you can locate a used OEM or NOS - my opinion -

Thanks for the feedback!  Unfortunately I didn't pay repop price for this.  :(

Hopefully I can return it.

Anyone want to post pics of an original for comparison?

Here's the pulley off my Z - sorry, not the best quality image.   Hope this helps.

Pics of my 07A original water pump pulley, I notice the font of the part # of the two originals match and have a flat top #3. The numbers of the repop are not the same. Could that have changed during the model year?

Thanks for the pictures!  They show some great details.
Hans' and Len's pics both show the flat top 3.
Len's 2nd and 3rd pic each show one of the perimeter spot welds.
Len's 1st and last pic each show what looks like 4 protrusions on the edge of the inner cup.

So I guess my observations from the pics are:

Flat top 3's,   4 protrusions 90 degrees apart on the back edge of the inner support cup,  and the perimeter spot welds attaching the inner cup to the pulley.

So those features may be a good way to ID an original pulley, unless someone comes up with something different on known originals.  Of course, there may be different features based on potential multiple suppliers, or changes over time.

Spooky

the 4 inner protrusions were made from the spot welder that welded the inner cup to the pulley. If the spot welder is set deep you will not have the 4 dimples sticking up inside the cup. I have an original that only has 1 dimple. it is right at the weld.
