Triple A Window sticker

I was just looking through some paper work I have on one of my cars. Back in 1982 the previous owner had a search done by Triple A Enterprises using the cowl tag and vin # to reproduce a window sticker/option code document. What, if any, valid information could this Co. aquire back then? I'm guessing its just an old scam?

And I did find this in the "small print": "This document does not validate or authenticate cars."


--Of course, you cannot believe everything you see in print --even electronically.  Not sure what GM approval means... I've been watching a couple of these sites wondering if it is worth it.
What do some of you other veterans think?

Triple-A doesn't do any "search" on cars, but they've developed a pretty good database over the years for dealer/zone numbers, ECL codes, base car and RPO prices, etc. They just create a repro window sticker based on the information you send them and apply what they feel are the correct ECL codes, prices, and dealer/zone numbers or names (if they have them). Good for car show displays, but won't fool a document specialist; I have them made for my cars - car show spectators get a kick out of the 30-40 year old prices. :-)

i had to send them a copy of my build sheet for my 69 van nuys z/28 to prove it was a Z before they would print one just on my word.

Do you have your window sticker posted in your window or as part of some other display?
If in the window, where? (Driver's side front?)

I had it laminated in heavy plastic (at Kinko's) and put it on a clipboard over the hood latch so spectators can see it without having to walk around the car.

But I cannot imagine anyone not wanting to walk all the way around your car... twice!

Would a special order car have a window sticker with standard pricing on it? reason I have the original invoice for my car and while it only has about 6 options it seems like the dealer discounted them, because when you total them up using the factory costs the sum is like $300 more. maybe special order cars didn't have window stickers?please let me know thanks

Every car had a window price sticker - it was required by federal law, and showed the manufacturer's suggested retail pricing (MSRP). Dealers could discount pricing any way they wanted, but those discounts only showed on the dealer's in-house invoice, not on the window sticker.

John, I doubt you'll get an answer. If their's is wrong, then so much the better. We try not to give people that make fake documents as little information as possible. Keeps it easy to spot fakes.

Window sticker size varied by year and sometimes even by model. Formats vary by Plant. ECL codes are an exact science. Prices changed sometimes up to 3X per year, so they are based on your car's production date. Not only did pricing change but the alignment and formats of the numbers also vary by year and plant. Option descriptions and verbiage varied by year and for the same options at times. Every blank form sold by on-line retailers is incorrect to varying degrees. There is a lot more than the size of the document to take into consideration when contemplating reproduction documents.

There are enough originals that the size isn't a secret. But they vary by year. 67 is very different than 69.
