temp. gauge problem

Not sure if my problem is along same line but sounds close. I have OER console gauge and after temp comes up and runs normal for a while the gauge jumps to edge of hot and stays a while. Ten for no real reason it will drop to normal. Couple time I noticed it jump around between but never over all the way hot or left past normal temp.
