There is a DZ engine for sale on Craigslist and the engine pad is stamped V1007DZ and the date code is difficult to read and the casting number is 3970010.
Could I have a second opinion that this is an October 1969 build date and not an October 1968?
I am asking because the seller also has a 3279 crankshaft, which I thought was 68 and very very early 69 DZ's and would not be correct for this block.

I don't like them. Block numbers are stamped too high. Don't like the vin either. Circular decking marks.

The ad read 'decked 0.005" ...' which isn't much, but it's clear the stamping is gone.... so it was a much deeper cut, probably with the intention of removing the original stamping (and support his current claim)...
no it ws a ce over the counter blk on the pad from gm parts palnt ,
Quote from: ruquik on January 26, 2016, 11:55:47 AMYES our records show it was sq decked after repair of a water leak fixed may 17 1999 , we have record of all blocks being resurfaced from 1974 to current machine shop records, jd
Don't know about all this other BS being talked about I was just looking for thought on these numbers. My customer bought this car which is real nice and the motor has some issues so he asked me to check it out and check the numbers out. I don't really see any of the original broach marks either?
Thanks
Quote from: BULLITT65 on October 04, 2015, 12:51:17 PMTHIS IS THE WAY THE CAR WAS PAINTED FROM GM I SOLD THE CAR MANY YEARS AGO I HAVE DEALER PHOTOS
If you read the description on the papers in picture area it says the car was freshened up by RK motors. It still surprises me that what appears to be a high dollar resto, would still have the deck lid edge painted incorrectly. I am not saying this car is 100% correct, but you can see the decklid edge is incorrect from 20 feet away.
