I am on the 'probably not page too'. I know with so few Camaros made in July, I wondered they would have been burning through June carbs. I need to check again, thought they only made 2000 plus total Camaros in July, and with the ratio of z28s out of that number, it had to be not that many z28s that month. Nickey Chevrolet told the owner of my car that it looked potentially it won't be made and if he wanted a 69. Something unknown was holding it up, maybe same thing held up others.

Hi, I have a 68z with a 7C body and an engine stamp build date of July 8. A friend wants my april first week carb for his in trade for a second week July DZ carb. Would this July carb be ok for mine?
I never had the original carb for my car so please don't think the April one came originally with my car, always hoped it was in range though (barely). If the July one is better, that would be good and I could proceed with a trade.

all great info, time tonight to go search better, helps to know they can be faint.  I have to say when I did look, I was not sure where they were, but now know exactly where they should be.

thanks for the help/education.  I have to now ask, did they make identical covers without the stamps? Like even without the stamps, would there be an application?  Someone told me the O is tied to the use case of 'O' stamped rocker arms.  had to ask, and I will really look harder at mine with a pen light next time in the garage. 

I have a friend that has the same month build (July), I need to ask him how his valve cover stamp looks, the VINs are really close (last 2000 68s made). Maybe they are both really hard to see stamps, doubt it but why not ask. I find it hard that these are not the originals as the patina matches the 25K mile car (driver quality).

I put the valve covers back on, they are aged, and I have not seen the O on the lip.  I could be blind, but had to ask if they are hard to see on originals.   Just would like to know if there is something I dont know on these being original to the car or not.  I dont want to bug the previous owners (including owner #1 yet). July (last week or so of production).

Ever consider doing a preservation on the car?  Looks like it'd be an amazing candidate.

Thanks, I pretty much have left it as is, other than use vinegar to get the mice smell out of the trunk.   I still have 3 of the original tires (they were used only on the front of the car as the back always had H series poly.   I had it at chevy vette fest once (vintage/survivor display) before that show became MCACN. It was always kept in a barn on a carpeted dirt floor in Wisconsin and it has no rust. The original owner poured motor oil in the back wheel wells from inside the trunk to prevent rust. I am sure I will wipe off more of the bottom of the car once I get my 2 post lift working.  The engine compartment could use a dust rinse off probably from the farm it was kept at most of its life.

I need to learn more about whether all/some Camaros have this writing on the firewall, if its on the cowl tag for black body, black v top, then why write BLACK on the firewall?  Could it be something for a black tail panel car? or painted bumper?.

It is pretty cool they wrote the whole word out and did not abreviate to say 3 letters. Its been likely 17 yrs since I paid any attention to this stuff under the hood.

I should note my car is a 10 B and not a 10 10 like I thought on the tag.  I would like to learn if all cars had writing on their firewalls and what it relates to.  Also, how do they know to paint the endura bumper during assembly, what tells them to do so.

Hi, I never posted a tag of my original survivor, and it seems when a 10 10 car comes up, there is always concern they are fake.
I was just going to send it to Kurt (if he wants it), but if there is one or 2 at most others, please pm me.

I have been under the hood lately on the car, and thought why not share the info (but not to aid those doing fakes).  The firewall has B L K written on it (faint white-ish, likely a white grease pencil when new), or maybe it was BLCK letters, that I can check on and post a picture if anyone wanted.  maybe they do this to all the firewalls.

I personally think its not sand blasting on the block, its exposure to the elements from being apart for a long time.  You have to look at all the other parts with that car in that link that look like it has been apart and stored badly for a long time.

A lot of things without a complete context can get you to the wrong conclusion. 

I am going to skip this starter that is one day short of the car assembly date and look for something in the 2-4 weeks before.
6 days is too close.  I am glad one should not look at the engine assembly date.

I myself do not see a confirmed DZ below the top stamp.  It could be a part of a 0 for the assumed D.
I think the V is fairly well defined and thus, the 4 numbers for the build date would push the underlying DZ to the right of the above stamp.  Lots of odd things going on here. 

A magnaflux could maybe help determine what is really below the grindout.

My 2 cents.

Ok,  just read the official production date per NCRS and it was 7/18/68.  That lines up with the 7C on the cowl tag.

So.....what would be the correct date range for the starter considering that info?  Would 7/12 be still too soon (1 week before)?
My guess its a stretch.

My survivor June 69 black Camaro has 10 10 on cowl tag.

I will check, all I thought it said it was from nickey Chevrolet. Learning a lot on this post. Thanks!
