Even with a Los vin the engine date is built after the cars vin date. Ether you are reading the vin wrong or it has been restamped. It would be nice to see a picture of the pad.

I still have my first car (my 67) and my other 2 Camaros also, but unofficially the 97 is my oldest son's car now.

I don't see anything wrong with those dates.  RS/SS 4-speed with A/C...Nice!

Actually since it is a NOR car, and no console, it could have been a powerglide on the column.  So in this case, the trans could have been a M35 or M15.

The N40 was probably just missed on the POP.  The U17 was not coded on the cowl tag or POP, so I bet it was factory also.

Well thanks to Chick ( 68camaroz28 ) we now have the Sept 68 and Sept 69 kits on line.  Check them out!

I would like to get more info on this car you posted about (124377L114810).  
If you can help, I need a picture of the cowl tag, POP and where the speedometer cable comes through the firewall.

The car should not have the 4P on the cowl tag, it is a little to early for that.

The Camaro video unfortunately is not as complete as I would like it to be.  I have the record, but do not have the film strip and only had most of the frames to be able to piece together what we have now.  If anyone has the film strip and would be willing to let me barrow it, please contact me.   Your car also came with a 3-speed stick on the column.  Not many of those around anymore.

Actually the car should not have a a front bumble bee stripe at all.  The car is too early for that.  It should have white pin stripes down the sides.  Here is an ad from Dec 1966 that shows the different models.

I would ether leave the powerglide, or swap it for a TH2004R.  The TH2004R is an over drive trans (the TH350 is not) and is the same size (no need to shorten the drive shaft), but it will need another cross member to mount it.

Yes, you can get the pan off without pulling the engine.  I don't rmember what I had to do exactly, but I had my pan off several years ago.

  First thanks for the data you have posted, it always helps to see what you have. 
The revision date on that document you mentioned (Jan 1967) was because the L35 engine was added to the document, not because of a change to the L48.  I have a Chevy parts catalog dated Oct 1, 1966 and the 350 crank assembly listed has only one part number (3912355) and no cost listed.  This is the same assembly listed in the Chevy parts catalogue #691A for 67 and 68 350 engines.  I also have all of the 67 model year Chevy dealer service bulletins and they don't list any changes for the 350 crank.  I have all of the Chevy Service News publications for 67 and they don't show any changes to the 350 crank.
My 67 Camaro's engine code is V1209MV.  I have never had the bottom end apart, so I don't know what I have.  If I have a reason to take it apart, I will check into what the crank is, but I really don't expect anything different than what is listed as stock.
