Status update. I was able to find a son of the original owner. Do not yet know if he is the one who posted here. He has informed me that he with get me in touch with his father, who is the original owner of this COPO. I think it's kool that on the 50th Anniversary of these cars that the original owner and car might be reunited. I have extended an invitation to meet at MCACN XI as the COPO will be in the Day 2 display.

Status update: This COPO has been a live and well in the Chicago Land area for the past two decades. The original owner of the COPO is also alive and well. More to follow soon.

No clone that I am aware of. The story as I have it, is that there was another similar Burnished Brown COPO in that geographical proximity and the guy who owned that other COPO, heard about this Original Owner and contacted him. They discussed the car and thought it was the same COPO. The original owner let him know that he had the POP and gave it to the guy with the other COPO. When he got it he realized it was a different COPO and hence the search for the car. The car left Ohio and has been in the Chicago land area since appox 1989.

Congrats on the Legends certification, that is quite an accomplishment.

1969 Camaros did not have a "reinforcement" ring around the shifter hole and the forward hole which retains the clip for the 4 speed Muncie cable is visible in the pics you posted.

Thanks to Mr. Sinor,  the NCRS and GM as well as anyone involved with facilitating this  process.

We have paid substantially more than $50.00 in order to obtain just part of this info and did not get a nice certificate to go along with it.

I can make out the rear BU code, but not the date?

Based on the pics provided, overspary inside and on the frame rails, it appears that it could have been an original Hugger Orange Camaro.

Wouldn't blacked out rockers be correct for this RS?

This Camaro has a very interesting story to say the least!

We inspected the Camaro and the documents years ago and this Camaro has NOT been  included in the Nickey Registry as an authentic Nickey Super Camaro.

The original owner states that he purchased and took delivery of the Camaro from Dick Harrell.

Dick was not working at Nickey when this Camaro was sold to the claimed original owner?

This Camaro features a reproduction trim tag with a K- code, when the POP shows 327/pg

It is also too early of a car for the L78 code.

Some of the Nickey documents we inspected are fake.

Etc.......etc......

I have been around Camaros for a while and can say that I learn something new about them all the time.

I have inspected more than a few original paint Camaros and what I can say it that I personally have never seen an original paint first generation tail panel which was painted Flat Black or Satin Black, while I have seen original paint first gens, painted with Gloss Black lacquer.  Not saying that it won't happen but thus far never has. The fact regarding the degree of gloss is subjective and can be visually affected by several factors, including the base color of the actual car.

Some of the original cars had very little Black paint on them, maybe two coats and you could even see the base color poking through in some areas. This provided for a less shiny black  in some cases but it was still Gloss Black lacquer.

Once again these have been unfattened Gloss Black Lacquer. Wether or not is was buffed to a mirror finish afterwards, (which I do not believe it was) doesn't change that they were Gloss Black Lacquer paint.

While wet sanded, buffed and polished Gloss Black will look different than non detailed Gloss Black lacquer, it is still gloss black lacquer and not the same as "satin" or "flat"

Chevelles, Mopars ect may or may not follow this patern and should not be used as a reference as to what may or may not have been done with Camaros.

Ok, thanks guys. seems like I'm behind the times. I was not aware that it was an accepted fact with an established time line.

I don't have any factory paperwork to support my claim. What I do have is decades of experience with 1969 Camaros. I have seen numerous "original" L78 Camaros with BV 4.10 gears and 4 Core Curved Neck Radiators. I have seen far too many over the years for it to have been a coincidence or factory mistake.

I have never seen factory  installed COPO gear sets in a Standard BV rear.

Ok, thanks for the input Guys. It is a big spread. The 03E Z28 project we have has its origianl BV dated within a few days.
