I scoured Ebay for years to find a couple NOS pieces.  They are very hard to come by.

Good Luck.

67's are not my expertise, but I'll ask the easy question - where is the shift pattern for the chrome knob car?
It has to be somewhere - either on the knob or on the console.

The '67 consoles don't display the shift pattern, so with my chrome knob there is no pattern visible.  Interesting tidbit on displaying patterns.  The federal motor safety standard to this day still specifies that 3spd manuals don't have to display the pattern (mine is a 3psd):

"S3.2Manual transmissions. Identification of the shift lever pattern of manual transmissions, except three forward speed manual transmissions having the standard "H" pattern, shall be displayed in view of the driver at all times when a driver is present in the driver's seating position."

I've seen other 67 3spd console cars with a chrome knob throughout the years, so I just assumed the chrome knob was correct.  I know this knob has been in the car since early '71.  Guess it's possible someone changed it out early in its life.

Thanks,
Dan

Kurt,

I read the shifter section of your link.  I have had two 67s w/ the standard three speed and console (327/210 & 250/155).  Neither shifter had Muncie stamped on it.  As for the knobs, one had a black knob with the 3spd pattern stamped in the top, and the other has a chrome knob w/o a pattern (current car).  I am highly confident that the chrome knob is original to the car.  I'm not as sure the black knob was an original.

I'm just curious about originality since the referenced article states that all knobs were black with the shift pattern imprinted.

Thanks,
Dan

I repainted a couple of originals a while back using model paint.  I just picked a nice vibrant red and blue.

The link below are my results.  The white spots are car wax remnants.

Maintenance / Re: tach issues
May 12, 2015, 04:26:41 PM
I added an original '67 gauge set from a donor car a few years back to my car.  When I installed the tach, it seemed to behave very similar to what you describe.  Nice and steady at idle, but would swing at a much higher rate than it should have given the engine speed.  It was not erratic, just too high.  My car was not delivered with a radio, so there were no filters.  So I added a homemade RC filter at the coil connection and fixed the problem.

Unfortunately due to the engine and trans swap somewhere along the way makes me think previous owners may have tried to add an emblem on the drivers side. After examining the pass. fender closer it doesn't appear to have been messed with and there are NO lower holes. So that would indicate 230 L6 correct?

As for the 12  6 on the VIN, I had no idea that it denoted a delivery date. And does it mean sold to a customer on 12/6? Or could this car have been ordered by a dealer and left on display? Thus the long time between build and delivery or is the 12 6 showing when the dealer received it? Just want to be clear.

The lack of engine emblem holes certainly points to an original 230.

The picture of the fender emblem holes doesn't look right for a 250 emblem.  There should be two holes level on the horizontal plane near the top of the emblem "shield" and one hole at the bottom of the emblem that bisects the line between the two upper holes.  The picture seems to show the bottom hole offset to the right of where is should be.  Of course, if the engine was originally a 230, there would not have been an engine call-out emblem.

6-cylinder Camaros / Re: 1 Barrel Carb "Choke Set"
January 05, 2015, 05:23:38 PM
I'll start out by saying that I think the '68 choke thermostatic spring and choke rod are the same as the '67 (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).  For my '67 I purchased the thermostatic spring new from Napa back in 2001 and found a used choke rod off of the Camaros.net classifieds.  I'm not sure if the spring is still available new, but the rod back in '01 was only available as a used part.

The spring mounts in a depression of the exhaust manifold with two screws below the carburator.  Both of my screws had rusted and fused to the manifold, so I had to have them drilled out and re-tapped.  My choke rod had also rusted away so that the key that holds the rod into the spring was gone.

Good Luck,
Dan

Originality / Re: Radio Delete Block-off Plug
October 27, 2014, 06:49:11 AM
Bill,

My convertible came with a 1967 date stamped Bendix AM radio with the antenna mounted on the front fender.  Given the radio date stamp, I'd guess it was installed at the dealer prior to or at the time of the sale.  If you didn't know any better, you would think it was an OE installation.

I have heard that a lot of dealers would order their cars radio delete to save money and then have cheaper GM radios installed in their parts dept.  When they did this they mounted the antenna in the rear because it was easier to access.  I'm not saying I know this for a fact, but I have heard of it.

My original BV may be beyond help.  The air horn is pretty warped and most of the sealing ridges between the air horn and bowl are non-existent which of course leads to a fair amount of leaking.  I was wondering if anyone had or knows where I can get a rebuild-able, complete carb for a 250 manual?  I don't trust the mass rebuilt units for fear of mix/matched pieces.

Thanks,
Dan

Nice!  The valve cover clamps are much much longer than the ones on my '67.
