Whats the proper ride height in inches. The 69 chassis service manual "4.5" shows where to take measurement from " fig.7"& spec. section"page 4" says 5.5 inch + or- 3/8. Im sure thats correct but my cars at 8.5. Im I reading all this correctly? Car is 69 Z10 396 5 leafs spring 12 bolt!

Yes, those specs and the measurement location are correct (it's also shown in UPC 0 in the Assembly Manual); do you have air shocks or replacement rear springs that would jack the body up 3" above spec?
or taller tires......
No shocks on the car yet,but it does have bigger tires, 35 yr. old BF Goodrich T/As G-60. The measurment is taken from the top of the axle to the frame, would tires really make a difference? Thanks for the imput guys!
Springs are original but I did put the plastic spacers in between each leaf,I know they were not original to the car.
Axle to frame, ignore the tires. I didn't check to see what you were measuring. Any point to ground, tires can change the measure.

Nope - tires will make no difference in that measurement; your issue is with the springs.
