Title: correct steering column bowl
Post by: revdan49 on March 17, 2009, 12:06:16 PM
Howdy,

Can anybody e-mail me a picture of the correct version of the word "lock" on a "69 Z-28 tilt steering column bowl. The non-tilt I have now has the word "lock" on a raised boss, with the word actually pointing at the key lock, rather than being printed along side. The raised boss has a pointed end at the key lock, and a squared off opposite end.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

Let me know if these photos help; it appears that the word 'Lock' is oriented differently on tilt columns than for non tilt columns for '69 Camaros (at least on the ones I have)...

Non-tilt original column in my '69 Z28:

Original Tilt column from '69 Camaro (not original to my car, but I believe to be correct):

If you are concerned over the 90 deg difference in orientation of the 'lock' indicator; I was too.   The tilt column I have I've had for 30 yrs; I believe it is a '69 Camaro tilt.   All other characteristics and indicators are the same as my non-tilt original column (except for the orieintation of the lock symbol).

Please post whatever you find out as I'm interested as well...  I want to restore and install the tilt column in my car .... for additional 'gut' space...  *G*
