Post by: Camaro67antwerp on August 15, 2024, 04:01:06 AM
I need to change my Ignition lock cylinder and need some advice how to remove the old. The key is missing.

Its a step by step process obviously involving steering wheel and internals removal. Depending on which column type you have it may differ. When I did mine, I watched several YT videos to learn. If not done properly you can mess some stuff up in there. The process is pretty easy if you do it correctly by step by step.

Based on his Name it May be a Dash mounted 1967/1968 configuration. I thought a paper clip inserted into a pin hole released it from the housing?

You need to turn the key while a paperclip is inserted into the hole so the cylinder will pop out.
I never tried it without a key though. Maybe try a flat screwdriver that will fit into the key opening, but don't go too deep, and with a paper clip, see if the cylinder turns.
Let us know the results.

Good luck!

Mike

If you have a door lock in either door, Take the door lock  out...there is a key code stamped on it that works for the ignition. Go to a your local lock smith and get made....then take new key and put in ignition with paper clip in hole, once key is turned to the left push paper clip in to hit pin that will release ignition lock cylinder.
