I have a matching #'s 68 SS with a 350. Its a original Corvette Bronze car. I love the paint color, but always loved the Z28 stripes. What's the feeling here of painting rally stripes on a SS? Is this a bad idea. Does this devalue the car?
Thanks in advance
Here; Tends to lean towards conformance to the Factory configurations; depending on the Build Date a nose stripe would provide the most appreciation towards Value in my opinion. Since your Bronze coded car is a Shared Corvette color and introduced in Jan 68 with a Black D91 Sport Stripe.

But the usual applies, enjoy YOUR car Your way, but you asked in my opinion, Others may vary.

I think it's a personal thing. If you like them, do them; as long as you're not trying to pass it off as something it isn't.
Have you considered vinyl decals for the stripes? Would allow you to remove if you ever wanted to go back or if the next owner didn't want them.?. Just a thought.
If it were mine, I would keep it the way it's supposed to be - BUT - its your car - do what makes ya feel good.
Just my opinion: if I owned your car I would not have the Z28 Rally Stripes painted on it. For me it would lessen the value as I would have far less interest in purchasing it if it had the Rally Stripes as opposed to the '68 SS stripes that would have come on it from the factory.
You could have a set of vinyls added to see if it works. Cheaper than paint and removeable.
Two problems I see with vinyl stripes, lettering, etc.:
1- Sometimes all of the glue doesn't release and leaves a messy condition requiring prep and paint.
2- Paint fade around the vinyl definitely requires repaint to balance. Mainly if the car is outside a lot; like shows, racing, etc.

Definitely agree.
Unless the car is a totally original SS, painting rally stories on it will have little effect on the value.
It's your car - if you like and prefer the Z-28 rally stripes, then by all means keep them.
The ONLY opinion that matters is yours.
Good luck

The D90 stripe looks wonderful on the Corvette bronze. The stripe was black. I've owned a Corvette bronze 1968 Z/28 since 1976 & it looks great because that's how it's supposed to look. If it was a SS it would be painted correctly. If it's a big block &/or a RS, there's even more black out areas to go with the D90 stripe. Black vinyl top would give more accent....Joe
I always get this Backwards: I think My Brain thinks 89, 90, 91 Numerically ascending is tied to application and dates.
thanks Joe
Early: < Jan 68 = D91 (Band Stripe)
Late: > Dec 67 = D90 (Sports Stripe)

The default is rally stripes on any first gen. Yawn.
It always attracts my attention to have the right stripes on a SS.

I fully agree with Kurt but as many have written, it's your choice.
It has also been said that if a fashion law was written & inforced, some people would be in prison with no chance of parole :) Just saying :)
