Now we have to worry about shiny new VIN tags as well as shiny new Trim tags :sigh:

Sunnava.....!!!
Wow - thought I've seen it all.....the bottom one (124379N567808) is an obvious fake compared to the real deal on top.

I don't think there's anyone who could have spotted this.  If I walked up to this car and looked at the vin - no way in hell I would have figured the tag to be butchered.

Unbelievable.

Great catch William.

I'm just dumbfounded.

I informed the seller and advised him to check the hidden VINs, but dollars to donuts they won't reply. Or even care for that matter.

If I were them, they should heed your advice.  That car is nothing but a mess, heading to a courtroom for sure.

Well surprise, surprise, surprise!! The seller replied:

QuoteThank you for your input.   The seller has been informed and we will get to the bottom of this.

Thank you,

And to their credit, the auction has been ended.

Good catch. In looking at it and studying them, the characters seem to be spaced too close together. 4 seems a bit off too.

William did the seller one helluva favor.

He may have been shut down on eBay, but a google vin search shows for sale on at least 4 other sites.

Rut Roh! Scooby.

Should possibly be reported to Calif DMV

Would the Selling Dealer be off the Hook when it comes to something like this?

Not if he's been notified. He's then a part of the lawsuit

Not impressed with the sellers feedback score also.....66%.  Not stellar by any means.

Curious as to why a guy would make a convertible into a coupe? I've seen coupes made into convertibles.

Just clicked on the auction link. Ironic that it is being sold by myhotcars. Sounds foretelling.

It's not. It's two different cars. The convertible is real and the coupe has a fake VIN tag.

10 years ago did A BUNCH of work to the convertible 124679N567808. I sectioned in the dash, the outer wheel houses, trunk drop, and painted the car.
Here is a link to the album of photos when I did the car (2013) for a customer in Charlotte NC. He traded it to Rick Hendrick and Rick had Jerry do a report on the car.
I was pretty well pleased with how it turned out and really pleased when I saw what Jerry had written.

Great job on the body work. 10 years later it's described and certified as a rare survivor!

QuoteIn terrific "survivor" condition the Camaro looks to have had only one repaint during its life in the original Cortez Silver with black rally striping. Mr. MacNeish stated in his inspection report that "it appears that this Camaro has been kept in a rust-free garage over the past 47 years. The complete sub frame, control arms, rear axle, floors and interior are in very good condition and show no signs of age, pitting, rust or repair. The body on this car is extremely straight and un damaged."

FROM ABOVE...
the convertible is real, has been owned by a number of different collectors but was probably not registered since 2015.  Rick Hendrick had it from the time Lawrence traded it for a 2015-16 Corvette until 2021? Since then THE REAL SILVER X66 CONVERTIBLE has gone through a couple of auctions and dealers.
The car has aged really well.
Here the convertible is for sale in Florida.
