Title: Rear Bumper unacceptable fit with tall guards
Post by: WaltZ on March 20, 2022, 08:31:29 AM
any recommendations on who may offer a 69 rear bumper that will conform to the tall bumper guards.
the aftermarket one and the tall guards fit is unacceptable.
it would be good for the short bumperettes, but definitely not the tall.
the guards are good, as they conform nicely to a oem bumper
any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

What aftermarket manufacturer and seller did you source from ? My first suggestion is to find a good core and rechrome the OE piece, but hopefully there are multiple aftermarket sources. All of mine are OE, I'll keep it that way.

Hi Walt, lot of guys are having this problem. My sugestion, go all original or go all aftermarket don't mix them. Just know rechroming is expensive.

A bench grinder sure helped me out, when I went thru this.

The aftermarket tall guards look great but fit terrible.  No way to make them fit as delivered.  Are you going to grind and re-chrome them to make the fit better?  Not something I would do.

NOS is expensive, but they just bolt on.  Tough pill to swallow.

Front number quarts are no better. Don,t know whether it was the bumper  or the guards, I did not have any originals handy to try them on.
