Title: 68 convertible space saver spare
Post by: 68SSL35/M40/O2 on February 23, 2022, 06:11:12 PM
I could'nt find anything in the AIM 1200 series manual, about part numbers, locations, for the convertible space saver spare tire. I've looked here through other posts, but only found 69. Any help, pictures?  I'm not positive my car came with a space saver. tire mount location is more towards the center of the trunk pan, about 4-5 inches from the RH frame rail.

IIRC, the location only varied depending on coupe vs convertible.

Hi,
I added a space saver to my 68 convertible many years ago when Steve Pardini gave me one from his attic. I could not find any info on where exactly to mount it so just had to improvise. I seem to think it was a $20 option and about 1000 68s ordered it. We need someone who has a factory one installed. Otherwise, I could send photos but the two I have from my iphone are 1.1MB each so not sure how to post here.

Thanks Brian, I may move my hook to that location. Pictures look good! What is the part number for the inflator?  I wonder if anyone else has a surviver, that could verify. This location?

Just an observation but shouldn't the inflation sticker be on the inside of the rim and not the outer edge? The curvature of the sticker would fit correctly.

Being that your car is a vert keep it in the current location which is different than hardtop.

Also to comment on Kurt's reply the only other note I see in the AIM is for C50 with the rear defrost but it doesn't note anything about the location being moved but I would think it might be that the jack assembly is what gets relocated but I haven't confirmed that yet.

There are 2 space savers on ebay now. Not cheap though. $800.00 & 1000.00.

I don't need an orginal one, does anyone make a reproduction or a workable substitute?
