Title: Fiberglass 1967 early production promo
Post by: bcmiller on May 14, 2021, 01:33:32 PM
Not sure if this car has been discussed before or not.

It's NOT Butternut Yellow. Too bright.

Can't get photo to load, will resize and try later.

This car has tiny wheels, maybe 13 inch?

Really interesting pic. Definitely has a lowered look to it.

Thanks for posting, new image to me. I think this is the same car that appears on the page on this forum " Camaro-67-69 model

information" I think some times these images were taken to be used later with some air brushing as promotional photos, maybe

for internal G.M. releases ? ?

I believe that is the same vehicle they used for the front of the 1967 Camaro brochure.  A picture was taken of the car that shows a blank front license plate, different side stripe along the belt line, white wall tires, the lack of any badging and a silver/chrome rocker panel section.  Airbrushing was used to change the picture into what you see on the cover of the brochure.  The belt line stripe was deleted, the proper side stripe was added at the top of the fenders, "CAMARO" was added to the front license plate, the tires became red lines, the correct badging was added to the nose and the front fender and body color was added to the rocker panel.

I always wondered why this particular car looked so hunkered down to the ground.  Bryon do you have more information on the vehicle?

The car was even in this photo which was used in multiple newspaper articles prior to and just after introduction.

The vehicle can also be seen at 4:40 in this portion of a Chevrolet engineering film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSFcvOqoMb8&t=219s

"...full scale fiberglass model."

The interesting thing about this picture is that airbrushing was used extensively to create the finished product.  As you can see in the second photo, the red car in the original picture was an SS, the billboard is blank and the billboard is actually a moveable trailer.  See in the second photo how the image of the yellow car was added, the parts identifying the billboard as a trailer were airbrushed out and the red Camaro became a base model with hub caps, whitewall tires, no SS stripe, no chrome trim around the wheel wells and no silver/chrome rocker panel.  I'm not sure if this red convertible was a fiberglass non-runner like the yellow car was.  To me it does not sit as low as the yellow car does.  It looks more production ready, with the exception of any identifying badges.  It does have the correct SS nose stripe unlike the yellow car.

In the third photo you can see the moveable trailer off in the distance between the two trees.

It seems to me that with the proper airbrushing both of these pre-production Camaros were used in the early print advertising as well.

More ads.

The red convertible seems to be the car on the back of the 1967 brochure. (4th photo)

Scott, you found all of the other images that I did. But I am still digging for information, and will post if I find anything.

Note that there is no gap for the header panel or the lower fender extension.
