Hi, can someone tell me what the correct finish on the headlight buckets? The car has 1 painted black and one is a dull metal finish. The repro ones are painted black. I would think the metal finish is correct. The car is a Feb build.
Thank you for your time
It is very possible the GM drawings allowed for both options for preservation, i.e. finishes; Paint or Plate. I have seen them both ways are take apart cars.
If it's the same for 67 then galvanized was the finish.

Thank you
My 68 is galvonized. Hope this helps.

Thanks again everyone. I appreciate the help.
I've seen 4 head lamp cars with 2 galv on one pod and two black on the other.
I might have made a mistake, but not a big problem, Mine had a assumed "yellow dichromate" tint to the Galv spangled surface so I took the easy way out and just Zinc Dichromate plated them (Restoration purposes) you loose the unique galv spangled appearance - compromise. Really when installed you do not see much of it.
I would assume, the sheets that these were stamped from were pre treated or they were hot dip galvanized after the fact.
My 68RS had one of each, but now that I think about it, It suffered a previous Owners girlfriend and a ditch and a line pole, so service bucket might have been installed (Black).

You can strip the gold off using evaporust or weak citric acid.
