1968 St. Jovite Trans-Am (Le Circuit Mont Tremblant)

We are fortunate to have some photos shared with us from our Canadian friend and Chaparral enthusiast, Mike Scott (group/7).
Mike took these photos himself back in the summer of '68. We'll start out with some from the Penske Camaro team.

Here's the interior of Sam Posey's car. Notice the use of a billet aluminum hub for the steering wheel.
This was unusual for the era but was also something they did in '67 on Donohue's original Camaro.

Donohue's Camaro is pointed toward the grid but for some reason it appears as though they are pushing it uphill.

Very interesting tail light treatment on these two cars. The stock lenses were not split with chrome accents like that.

The Gagnon Spring sponsored team of four different cars. Only the Mustang and the Firebird ran in the Trans-Am
event that weekend. Notice the very fancy trailer in front of the cars. This was no low-buck operation.

The #77 Firebird owned by Terry Godsall and driven by Craig Fisher. This was an ex-Penske Camaro that was reskinned as a Firebird and
ex-Penske mechanic Tom Greatorex was coaxed into coming up to Canada to prepare and maintain the car. John Phillips was the crew chief.

The Jerry Titus and Horst Kwech Mustangs nose-to-nose in the paddock. These are the Mustangs with the
infamous tunnel port 302 engines that made a lot of peak horsepower but seemed to blow at every race.

Titus' car shows the damage from hitting an embankment during the race after evading a slower car
during a passing manuever. He finished in 14th place and Kwech retired from the race on lap 44.

John drove a '67 Z-28 during the '67 Trans-Am season for Hugh Heishman out of Virginia.

Part of the appeal of going to the races, besides seeing the cars in action, was the chance to see some good looking
girls. Sometimes it was for the chance to see some exotic cars like this De Tomaso Mangusta. For some, it was for all
three reasons (and maybe a wild party in the campground or at the hotel).

OK...what are the two 427 Sunoco Camaro's?

I was wondering if anybody was going to comment on that. I have no idea why they wrote 427... if it was a joke, somebody's ignorance, or what.
They definitely ran a 5-liter small block, not a big block.
