Nice rack, is it real or fake (reproduction)?
It doesn´t look exactly the same as in a 69 sales brochure to me. It looks like this rack is more flat to the trunk lid than others I´ve seen:

You can see the rosewood inserts on the 69 rack.  It is different from the 68.

I promiss I would never dill holes in my deck lid it is a 100% original rust free 67, however I will buy a reproduction, this way I can change back if I don't like it.

Somebody is going to have to explain to me why anyone would pay over $1000 for any dealer-installed, non factory original item like a luggage rack?!?  ??? :o :'(

Z28 cross rams are dealer installed, $1000 would be a good price.

This is true, but have you followed discussions about dealer installed cross rams on this site? KIM, this topic will draw 100X the negative response the rack has. Simply because people try to make a couple extra bucks by passing it off as a factory installed option that boosts horse power, and people eat it up. Nothing could be farther from the truth. And, unless you are fortunate enough to have a build sheet, anything dealer installed is hard to prove (I guess it would be hard to disprove as well).

Personally, if any First Gen could ware the rack it would be a 6. Bottom line, it’s your car so what difference does it make what anyone thinks? Just go for it…and if you're unsure what judges will think, just keep a standby lid handy. ;)

The only sad part is the 6cyl is a car that I plan on bringing to nationals. The 6cyl car is numbers matching everything I mean everything all date codes are original to the car except battery and tires. I would not put it on that car. I have a 327 car that does not have any original drive train, my plan is to put it on that car along with AC & power window and drive it! Rack is great for going to the beach. I know you would think I would put it on the six banger.

I think I mentioned this before and so have others; 6cyl Gens are becoming rarer by the minute. Too many owners are ripping them apart and converting them into clones. You are to be commended for preserving yours! BTW…I would certainly like to see pics of it; please post.

As for the 327 that isn’t numbers…why not? Sounds like a good candidate.

Sure, but if you were paying $1499 for the rack, that would increase the price of a cross ram by around five fold to make a fair price comparison.
I'm still siding with Marty on this one...
But like Marty, I'd like to see pics of the six banger.  There was one at Spring Autofair last year with a factory correct six cylinder.  It drew a lot of attention.  Like Marty said they are getting rare in that snese.
