luggage rack

Does anybody have any idea  how much a 67 luggage rack is worth in good condition with hardware? Are they rare?

Don't know what they're worth, but it wasn't a factory option - it was an over-the-counter dealer-installed GM accessory item.

There was a time (early 70's) when I used to see a lot of them even seen them on early second gens. but I haven't seen one in years. Have no idea on the value.

So, I checked with my antique dealer -- car buff friend, and:

In excellent condition with hardware, between $75 to $100. Good (?) with hardware around $50...

Rare --only in the sense that they were not factory original.  So, there wouldn't be that many around.  But they wouldn't be all that desireable....

They are great at reducing the value of an otherwise nice car.......

I like them on convertibles not on hard tops, they don't seem to reduce value on corvettes. The camaro convertibles that I have seen with them seem to sell for higher prices. I saw one on a show car with a ski rack looked great! Much better than a spoiler on a 67 my opinion is spoilers should be for  69.  when I see a spoiler on a 67 it reminds me of the "caution fan" sticker.

Not sure why anyone would think this thing looks better than a spoiler: Vert/Coupe ???
It looks like something trying to dump a load but it can't quite make it to verticle. No wonder their rare :-\

Sorry 67conv6cyl...

Your right I don't like it on this car!  I like the spoilers on 69's  only, my opinion is they work on that body  (67 & 68 I feel look to tall in the back) but that's just me.
Maybe I have just seen to many 67 & 68 with spoilers and cowl hoods on them.  The 67 that I saw at a show with The rack and skis on it took best of show, the car also had rims painted body color with the dog dish hub caps on it.  This car was a Capri Cream convertible. If any member has a picture of this car please post it, I saw it at a car show in NY a few years ago.

If Chevy had designed the First Gen Camaros as a two seater with a flat rear deck, I would agree with you.

As to value, it all depends on the buyer, once you go beyond the originality issue.

I agree with Phillip. The other application would be vehicles with trunks the size of a glove box. Then there's the ultimate flat deck luggage rack carrier, and my dream car...the passive solar-mobile. ;D

Every once in awhile a NOS one will pop up on eBay, they'll go for $1100-$1400, depending if any hardware or end caps are missing, and assuming it was a legitimate buyer and not a buddy running up the price.

After seeing the VW bus with rack and dog dish hub caps I may have changed my mind. Thanks for waken me up. Just so you know I would never drill holes in a original deck lid but I would keep original safe and drill a reproduction one.  Allthough I would still like someone to post a good picture of convertible with rack.

Okay, here's a 68, that was posted orginally on TC.  I'll admit it looks better on a vert....  Apparently, so does that German Shepherd...  ???
(BTW, that doesn't look like the right rack for a 68....)
Marty, those VW Samba buses are actually highly collectable nowadays.  :o

Phillip - I was serious when I said I'd like to have one (thinkin ahead to the grandkids). I think there about as nostalgic/vintage as vintage comes. Pretty cool looking grandparent ride don't ya think?  ;)

BTW, that smaller rack on the vert does look better. Almost seems like a guy could squeeze in a spoiler if he wanted. Still not my cup of tea.
