69 Carpet Configuration-Front Seats
« on: July 18, 2012, 11:38:02 AM »
Does anyone have photos or suggestions for proper install of front seats in relation to stock carpet.  I understand that the seats are supposed to be UNDER the carpet.  Mine are currently installed over the carpet.  Since I have them out for cleaning and under dash work I want to reinstall them correctly. This will install cutting perfectly good carpet so I do not want to make mistakes.   Thanks for your help.

On my untouched original 02D Norwood '69, the seat tracks are bolted directly to the floor at both ends; the rear carpet covers the rear bolts, and the rear bound edge of the front carpet covers the front bolts.

Thanks John, so can you tell if there is a slit from bolt hole to bolt hole?

Yes, there are slits in the rear carpet around the rear of the seat tracks.

<<Any pictures?>>

Here's a shot of the rear of the passenger side inboard seat track - you can see the flap at the rear that covers the bolt. The slits for both tracks run all the way to the front edge of the rear carpet, and that front edge is covered by the rear edge of the front carpet, below the front of the seat.

Ah Thanks John now I see. So the flap is also folded under the seat between the rails.

Yup - the wide center flap (between the inboard and outboard seat tracks) and the narrow outboard flaps run all the way forward.

John,
Is where the leg tucks in just a 90 deg cut then running forward? Or does the long cut running along the track extend back as far as the short leg towards the rear where it would create an actual flap which could fold back vs a corner which could be held back to install the bolt?
Does this make sense?

John great picture but I am still puzzled by the cut descriptions. I drew up a picture to help me. Can you tell me if that looks correct. Merry Christmas to all. George

The slits run the full length of the tracks, as shown in reply #10. Two photos below show the front of the inboard passenger side track where it bolts to the floor. First one is with the carpet in normal position (rear edge of front carpet covering the bolt), second one has the rear edge of the front carpet pulled forward to expose the front edge of the rear carpet adjacent to the track.

The pics here may help too.

Exactly like I had pictured in my mind... or does the long cut continue down and terminate at the same point toward the rear like the short inner cut?

Guys those actual photos show a clearer idea on the carpet cuts, but I thought I would correct my drawing to match John's description. George
