Scott, it was Dale Wood's Mustang but AJ was the driver at Sebring in '66.

That would explain it.  No wonder the car looks so similar.  I'm not too well versed on the 1966 season. I got confused because in Dave Friedmans book there is a picture of the car at Sebring and it states that, "Foyt led the first 32 laps in Dale Brown's privately entered Mustang...."  "Brown" must have been a typo.  Thanks Jon.  I also find it interesting that Foyt is not mentioned in the "Sebring" ad since he was undoubtedly one of the most famous drivers at the time!

Hard to speculate why they did the ad like that. I agree that AJ was one of the biggest names in the business at that time so it doesn't make sense on that level.

Here is an ad from 1967 for Ring Free Racing Formula Motor Oil featuring Jerry Titus and his Sebring Trans Am race winning 1967 Shelby Mustang.  As you can see, this one appeared in October of 1967, but since Sebring occurred in March the ad could probably have been seen earlier as well.

Here is an ad for Shelby Parts and Accessories that also features Jerry Titus and his Sebring Trans Am race winning 1967 Shelby Mustang.  The ad appeared in the August 1967 issue of Motor Trend.

Here is a national Ford ad for the 1969 Boss 302 Mustang featuring the 1969 Shelby Trans Am Boss 302 Mustangs of Peter Revson and Dan Horst Kwech/Dan Gurney.  The ad in my collection appeared in either Car Craft or Hot Rod due to the type of car featured on the other side of one of the pages but it doesn't show the date.

Here is an ad for Castrol XLR featuring the 1969 Bud Moore Boss 302 Mustang of Parnelli Jones.  As you can see, this ad appeared in June of 1969 but the picture appears to have been taken before the season started because the car doesn't have it's signature Boss 302 side stripes and all of the other advertising.  It also features a side mounted gas filler.  It looks to be the car Parnelli Jones drove in the Florida Citrus 250 NASCAR Grand Touring Race at Daytona International Speedway, Daytona, Florida on February 21, 1969.

Here is a national Ford ad for the 1970 Boss 302 Mustang.  I love the statement next to the drawing of the 1970 Boss 302 in the 1969 Trans Am paint scheme that says, "Paint a number on your Boss 302, put a big gas tank in it, and call yourself Parnelli Jones."

Here is an interesting Ford ad from 1970 talking about the engine from the 1970 Boss 302.

Sorry you can't read the copy in this one.  I couldn't find a better picture of this ad.

Here is a similar ad for Castrol XLR but it obviously ran after the June 7, 1970 Trans Am race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Lexington, Ohio which was the fourth consecutive win for the Bud Moore 1970 Boss 302 Mustangs.  It has a different headline and first paragraph but the pictures and other paragraphs are the same as the one from earlier in the year.  As you can see, this ad appeared in Car and Driver.

Here is an ad for Castrol XLR that features the 1970 Bud Moore Ford Boss 302 Mustang of Parnelli Jones.  It appeared in the October 10, 1970 edition of Competition Press & Autoweek.  It was posted by Jon Mello here on this web site.
