Here is a national ad from American Motors for the 1970 Javelin that talks about their win at St. Jovite, Quebec, Canada on August 2, 1970.  The ad in my collection appeared in Sports Illustrated.

Here is a national American Motors ad featuring a picture of the 1970 Javelin driven by Jim Paschal in the NASCAR Grand American series.  This car was the winner at Raleigh, North Carolina on August 14, 1970.  I know this wasn't a Trans Am race but the ad also mentions in the second to last paragraph that, "Meanwhile, Mark Donohue and the Javelin have become consistent winners in Trans-Am, winning three out of the last five races."

Here is another national American Motors ad featuring a picture of the 1970 Javelin driven by Jim Paschal in the NASCAR Grand American series.  This car was the winner at Kingsport, Tennessee on September 5, 1970.  Again this isn't a Trans Am car or race but the second to last paragraph states that, "Meanwhile, Mark Donohue and the Javelin have become consistent winners in Trans-Am, winning three out of the last five races."

In referring to the new 1971 Javelin AMX, this American Motors ad states, "the car Trans-Am race driver Mark Donohue helped us design."

Here is an ad for Sunoco that features the Trans Am championship winning 1971 Javelin AMX of Mark Donohue during a pit stop.  It appeared in the December 1971 issue of Hot Rod Magazine.  Check out the offer for the cool Javelin model kit.

Here is an ad from Hank Thorp Inc. and Minilite congratulating Penske Racing and the American Motors Javelin on the 1971 Trans-Am Championship.  I found this ad on this website in the 1971 Trans Am season review thread.

Here is another national American Motors ad for the 1972 Javelin AMX that features the wonderful tagline: "The Closest You Can Come to Owning the Trans-Am Champion."  The one in my collection appeared in the February 1972 edition of Car Craft.

Here is an ad for Champion Spark Plugs featuring the 1972 Woods Javelin driven by George Follmer.  As you can see the ad appeared in Car and Driver in their June or July 1972 issue.

Here is a national American Motors ad featuring the 1973 Javelin AMX.  The ad talks about how they won the Trans-Am championship for the second year in a row.  It appeared in the November issue of Hot Rod.

Here is another American Motors national ad featuring the special Trans-Am Victory package for their 1973 Javelin.  Notice the picture of George Follmer and Roy Woods.  I don't think I have ever seen one of these cars with the special "Trans Am winner medallion on the side panel."

According to wikipedia, "The package was available on cars built from October to December 15, 1972, on any Javelin SST, except with the Cardin interior.  A single magazine advertisement, featuring the winning race drivers George Follmer and Roy Woods, promoted the special package.  Cars that were ordered with the visibility group, light group, insulation group, protection group, and sports-style steering wheel, received at no additional cost (but valued at $167.45) a large "Javelin Winner Trans Am Championship 1971-1972 SCCA" fender decals on the lower portion behind the front wheel openings, as well as 8-slot rally styled steel wheels with E70X14 Polyglass raised while letter tires and a "Space-Saver" spare tire. The Trans Am Victory cars were also more heavily optioned than regular production Javelins."

The second picture is a reproduction of the medallion I found on ebay.

Now its time for the Mustangs

Here is an interesting one.  It is an ad for Amalie Oil featuring the Mustang of Dale Wood at the 1966 Sebring 4-hour endurance race.  When I first found it I thought it was the #4 Mustang driven by A.J. Foyt in the Four Hour Governor's Cup for Sedans (the first Trans Am event) at Sebring Circuit, Sebring, Florida on March 25, 1966 because they are both white 1966 Mustangs, they both have the #4 and they both raced at some type of 4 hour race at Sebring.  I am not sure what the 4-hour endurance race mentioned in the ad was.  Dale Wood does not appear in the list of drivers for the Trans Am four hour race and there obviously could not have been two Mustangs with the same number racing in the same event.  There must have been another 4 hour race on the same day.  I can not find any information on this event anywhere.  Does anyone have the program for the 1966 12 hours of Sebring?  This should have the schedule for the preliminary races that took place the day before the 12 hour race.  It might also shed some light on what other cars were in this race.

The ad in my collection is from June 1966.

Here is another ad for Amalie Oil featuring the 1966 Mustang of Dale Wood.  It states his "289 Mustang was undefeated in SCCA National events in 1966."  Looking at the results from the 1966 season in the Dave Friedman book, "Trans Am: The Pony Car Wars, 1966-1972," an entry for a Wood/Van Beuren driven Mustang did not finish the Mid-America Trans-Am Sedan Championship race at Mid-America Raceways, Wentzville, Missouri on June 12, 1966.  There is also an entry for a Wood/Dundas driven Mustang that did not finish the the Marlboro 12 hour race at Marlboro Park Speedway, Upper Marlboro, Maryland on August 14, 1966.  There is also an entry for a Wood/Dundas Mustang that did not finish the Pan American Endurance Race at Green Valley Raceway, Smithfield, Texas on September 10, 1966.  If it is the same car it had great success in SCCA national events but couldn't finish any of the three Trans Am races it was entered in.

As you can see, the ad appeared in the April 1967 issue of Motor Trend.

Scott, it was Dale Wood's Mustang but AJ was the driver at Sebring in '66.
