309 Master or 346 Master???
« on: June 21, 2012, 11:06:12 PM »
I have a 69 with an 01C build date.  (Front Power Disc, rear drum) Anyone know what is the correct Master Cylinder ???   309 or 346???  Initially I thought a 309, now I'm not so sure, it appears early production 69's had the 346???  Anyone???

You may have seen that on the "technical updates" page of a later rev of JM's '69 book. I happened to examine a very original early production Norwood Z/28 that had a 5460346 master stamped US and passed the info along. I have seen earlier cars with 309s so maybe this was a case of Chevy using up some inventory.

The car in question was much earlier than yours, 09D. An 01C car would have the 309.
Learning more and more about less and less...

William beat me to it, here's some information.

http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#Brakecomp

1967 manual disc brake cars used the 5459467 master cylinder casting. 1967 and 1968 power disc brake cars used the 5460346 master cylinder. Early 1969 disc brake cars also used the 5460346 master cylinder (for about a month or so of production) with later 69 cars using the 5468309 casting

September of the prior year (1968) was the start date.
