Plastic Repair

On the grille of my 69 there are a few irregularities, such as pits and low/wavy areas on the surfaces.  What would be a good filler to use on it, which I assume is ABS?

I heard of 3m Rigid Parts Repair.  Does that work OK when used to feather out these areas?

Plastex is really good stuff for ABS.. I've done heaps with it.
You's need to "bulk it up" slightly -like body filler, then sand/file it back.
It will repair cracks and you can mold parts with it too.

Be careful though, some repro plastic parts are not ABS like originals.. Grilles.. not sure.

How exactly does one go about determining what type of plastic they are dealing with? For instance what type
of plastic is the instrument cluster?

I know for a fact that it's ABS on OEs and repros after doing a RHD conversion. Much Plastex!

Old grills are brittle.  Tried to repair mine (68 non RS) using various products (Bondo and Minwax wood filler...not plastic wood... seemed to work as well as anything).  Ended up replacing the grill as it was too wavy.  Went through 3 repro grills before finding one with mounting holes drilled in correct locations.
