What type of car(s) would have a Muncie M 20 with the speedometer cable input on the drivers side?

I probably should have asked this question to start with...I took out the non original Saginaw in my convertible and put in a Muncie M20. I put the tail shaft on that has the speedometer input on the drivers side to accommodate the existing speedometer cable. When I connect the cable to the transmission the 1st and 2nd gear shifter rod crimps the cable while in first gear. I was thinking if I could find a shifter rod that would have been original for the speedometer input on the drivers side I may be able to solve my problem. The geometry is just off a small amount to bind the cable in first. I do have a tail shaft that has the input on the passenger side and could exchange the existing shaft, but I really did not want to cut a hole in the firewall for the Muncie speedometer cable. Anyone know which shifter rod that may work for my situation?
This is a prime example why I like to leave things original!, :'(

You can't just swap the 429 (driver's side speedo) and 584 (pass side speedo) tailhousings on the same transmission; the location of the pressed-on speedo drive gear on the output shaft is different, and the output shafts are machined differently to accommodate the two different locations. You'll probably have to modify your existing 1-2 shift rod to clear the speedo cable when in gear.

If you want to change the tailHOUSING, you need to change the output SHAFT, or you won't have the machined surface in the right location to accept the pressed-on speedo drive gear. It would be simpler just to modify the 1-2 shift rod so it clears the speedo cable.
