Photo of RPO D96 Striping

Would anyone know where I can find a photograph of a 1968 Camaro with the RPO D96 striping? 

I have read on this site, as well as other sites and research materials, that the RPO D96 stripe was not included with the SS package striping.  I own a 68 L35 car, which shows the D96 accent striping on the original window sticker...so, I'm confused...what should striping should be on my car.

Does RPO Z21 & John’s report contradict RPO D96 in that only Z21’s in 67 & 69 received factory RPO D96 stripes? RPO Z21 & John’s report appear to cancel out what is stated in Z21 (19,657 68's received the pinstripes)? Can someone please explain? My guess is REScreib's car’s accent stripes were applied at the dealership… BTW, I looked for a pic and nothing at all.

RPO D96 for ‘68 (http://www.camaros.org/pdf/options.pdf) states the following; Striping, Accent (pinstripes over fenderwells) (included with Z22, 67 & 69 Z21 and 69 Z11). Not a separate RPO in 67.Z28, SS. And that 19,657 1968 Camaro’s received the pinstripes.

RPO Z21 for ’68 states the following; Exterior Style Trim Group: bright wheel opening moldings, bright drip moldings(coupe). Fender pinstriping (67 & 69). Bright belt moldings (68). Rear fender louvers, black body sill, headlight bezel accents, and…Doesn't say 68's received D96.

John’s report (http://camaros.org/assemblyprocess.shtml) states the following; Other Operations:…pinstriping fixtures were applied and Z21/D96 pinstripes were painted with Buegler roller-striping guns…

I interpreted the same thing.  My car is a 1968 L35, with the Z22 option...very early build - Aug. 67 (VIN = N300755) so, I get a lot of "exceptions" when I do research to determine what the car is supposed to have or look like.

Okay - I missed your cars Z22 option. RPO D96 included w/Z22.

The 67/68 D96 stripe is the one that runs along the side of the fenders, doors and quarters just below the top edge.  The easiest picture to find of the stripes would be on the 67 pace cars.



You will have to decide amongst yourselves if the 2 stripe rule applies to non special paint 67's and 68's, and if and when the rule went into effect.  I beleive the N/A with SS and Z28 note in the RPO spreadsheet refers to 69 only.

My Assembly Process paper applies to 1969 production, as noted in the first paragraph:

"The detail discussion will focus on the 1969 model, as that's where I was personally involved..."

My 2 cents (and my opinion only, not representitive of the CRG).

I have one other 68 SS in the DB with the D96 stripe (see below). Not great pictures, but you can clearly see the stripe going past the door into the rear quarter panel.

I also have a "late" (12-67 revision) order form and it states that D96 is "N/A on Camaro SS". I believe this was due to the "new" (January, 1968 release) D90 stripe which came down the sides of the car, and since the D96 ALSO came down the sides of the car, you couldn't have both, so therefore D96 was not available with SS.

However, earlier cars had the D91 Bumble Bee stripe which didn't come down the sides of the car, so I believe you COULD get the D96 with the SS at this point. Unfortunately, I don't have an early (pre 12-67) order form so I can't see what it says with regards to the D96 with SS. I also don't have the VIN on the car below, so that's no proof either.

I'm still looking at the pictures in the DB and hopefully I'll come up with more info.
