1969 Camaro Named Best Chevy of All Time

Nearly 125,000 Chevrolet fans have spoken, naming the1969 Camaro the “Best Chevy of All Time.”

As part of Chevrolet’s Centennial celebration, fans were asked to vote for their favorite vehicle from Chevrolet’s 100-year history. During the four-round, elimination bracket, the 1969 Camaro garnered 25,058 of the 124,368 votes cast, edging out the 1970 Chevelle SS in the final round.

Tom Peters, Chevrolet Design director, believes the ’69 Camaro is not only one of the best vehicles in Chevrolet’s history but one of the best vehicles ever. He is a little biased, however, having owned the same 1969 Camaro for nearly 20 years.
“I can vividly remember seeing one for the first time as a kid,” Peters said. “The intent of the Camaro was instantly understood, even to a 14-year old like me, because it possessed a very powerful personality and an elegant, simple design. The Camaro was so cool because it offered this great style, high performance, and yet was attainable for someone just getting out of school.
“Today, the ’69 Camaro has become one of the best examples of timeless design in the industry,” Peters said. “Like the very best designs, the Camaro is much more than just a machine because it evokes powerful emotions in people of all ages. That’s why we looked to the ’69 for inspiration when designing the fifth-generation Camaro, and why the ’69 Camaro is an example of the timeless vehicles Chevrolet will strive to deliver for the next 100 years.”

The 67-69 camaro is sought after by ALL walks of life...even Mopar & Ford camps!! Just to bad GM missed the style of camaro that All walks of life fell in love with 42 years ago!!!

Well let me start by saying this. I love all Camaro's and it is by far my favorite car, but..... I think if you asked this question 20 years ago I think you would have had a different answer.  I think back then either the 55 or 57 would have won out. So I feel it is a timing thing. At this time it's easy to pick the Camaro because it is the car that so many recognize now/ have feelings for now, while those who were really into the 55 & 57 have moved on in age and many have different interest now. What Chevy is best well I will say there are a lot of great Chevys; 67-72 trucks (offered the first sport truck package), 62, 67 Vett, 70 Chevelle SS, just to name a few.

They're all great, but for me it's the 69 Z/28 not only does it have great styling it also has great history. I remember my first introduction one that I'll never forget. It was early dawn one Sunday morning (back when nothing else was open) I was 17 working at one of two full service gas stations located side by side. The sun had yet to come up and I was taken readings from the pumps before starting another day when all of a sudden I hear the tires breal loose and then the Holley carb kick in.....I ran out to the curb to see what in heavens name was making all the commotion and what I saw were those distinct round parking lamps rising up and down as the Camaro went through the numbers and that sound coming the high reving 302 was breathtaking as it was the only car on the road that quite morning. Then unexpectedly, the car quickly slowed and pulled into the station next to mine.....come to find out my buddy working at that station had just purchased it. Hugger Orange, no spoliers, no options at all....just a base 69 Z/28....it was love at first sight!

That is a great picture of the Gold RS. IS it yours. That is one fine looking car. I have to agree with Steve. My Favorite Camaro of all time is the 69 Z 28. I wanted one so bad, but could not afford one so I am building a clone. It may be the closest I get to the real thing. I will try to do it justice, but either way the first time I drive it one early morning I will be as giddy as a scholl boy I can tell you that. It will be high school all over again. Pretty well a dream come true. Glad there are some many others that feel the same way. Go L'il Camaro Go!
