NOS? GM 3877660 '69 Z28 T. Housing....
« on: July 08, 2011, 12:47:34 AM »
40 years ago I bought my '69 Z28.  It had the wheels and Shift Knob changed (Day One), other than these two items is was as it left the factory.  I kept it as original a possible, and have replaced the US Mags and shift knob with correct items.  I entered it into several shows in"81 '82 (Car Craft, etc.), but as it is completely original (dull with patina under the hood)  it did not stand a chance with over "Restored" cars.  [Mendoza's White Z repainted Silver with a crossram, Chrome hinges, headers, etc. that was featured in Magazines]  An underhood photo from '82  appeared in April '82 Hot Rod and HR Annuals for it's Cowl Induction setup.   Last year Jerry MacNisch certified it as "unrestored very original" '69 Z28 with original engine, trans, rear, gm chambered exh, fan, intake, carb, water pump, smog hoses, dist, Alt, etc., etc.

Now the frustrating part.  I have purchased several items to replace/repair a few parts that have worn out, but most have been different and I ended up cleaning up and using the originals.

The Thermostate Housing has some corrosion on the neck and inside.  Several years ago I used JB Weld to patch the inside.  I have been trying to find an exact replacement.   The original has the Part Number on the rim.  All replacements (Including a "NOS") neck all have the Part Number on the top.

Where can I find an EXACT replacement?   Are they available
?

Get ahold of Jerry McNeish again: [urlhttp://www.z28camaro.com/][/url] I'll bet he can restore your original to better than new condition.

Not sure if this one is an original or not.

I used to have several originals around.  I will check and if I have one I will contact you.  But they might be gone now.

That's not an original 660 housing. Paragon is the only manufacturer I'm aware of for the reproduction, and they sell it to lots of vendors; it has the part number on the neck, not on the base. It also has the "PR" logo cast on the inside of the "dome" portion of the housing where it can't be seen when installed.

The thermostat outlet/housing used in 1969 had the part# on the neck and a eyelet located at the base by the leftside bolt as shown. I wouldn't purchase a reproduction unless it was a last resort. This style housing was used for many years and can be found on ebay craiglist or local swap meets. Corrosion/pitting is an issue but good ones are out there.

Paceme,
I thought that early built car came with the 660 on the flange and the later ones on the tube or neck.
