The first photo is the only one I have been able to locate that shows one of the "Official Cars" on the track during the Trans Am race held at the track.  You can see the Fairlane in pit lane beyond the Mustang on the track.  The third photo shows the Fairlane advertisement that appeared on the back page of the souvenir event program.

A gold 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado was also used in some capacity by the track during the events held at Sebring Circuit in March 1966.  These pictures show the car near the parking lot where the pre-race technical inspection was held in the town of Sebring.

The first two photos show the Toronado near the track during the 12-Hours of Sebring.  Notice how it has the words "Official Car" on the door.  The third shows the Toronado advertisement that appeared in the souvenir event program.

At least two different 1966 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL convertibles were used in official capacities during the events held at Sebring Circuit during March 1966.  The first picture shows a dark colored one with a sign on the door that reads "Official Communications Coordinator."  The second photo shows a tan colored one parked on pit lane during the 12-Hour race.

While checking ebay and worthpoint I was not able to find an advertisement for the car in the souvenir event program but that doesn't mean that one didn't appear in it.

Mike,

Thanks for the tip on the Sebring race photo website.  I'm very appreciative of all the hard work you do posting the pics and info here for all of us to enjoy and learn from.

Your welcome Jon.  I'm glad there is such a great place for me to post the stuff I like to research.  I'm especially glad that once the information is posted it is basically permanent, meaning that in the future people can refer back to it when ever they need to.  I've been reading and referring to the material you have been posting in the Trans Am section and elsewhere on this web site for almost a decade!  Thank you for all the hard work you and all the others have put into it!

Here is a great color photo showing the 1972 Porsche 911 Targa on the pit lane entrance road just before the field receives the green flag to start the Trans Am event held at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday, July 15, 1972.

I found the picture at the Remembrances of Elkhart Lake/Road America Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/147537615666486/photos/

You can see another color photo of the Porsche 911 Targa pace car in Reply #25 on page two of this thread.  The photo on page two must have been taken a few seconds earlier than this one and from nearly the same vantage point.

I forgot about this photo taken during the 1966 Trans Am race at Sebring that shows the 1966 Shelby Mustang GT 350H used in some type of official capacity during the race.  You can see it sitting off to the right of the track at the start of the event.

Thanks Mike,

In case anyone missed it a few more pictures of this 1966 Shelby GT 350H appear in Reply #295 on the previous page of this thread.  Also, photos of the 1965 Mustang convertible and 1966 Farilane GTA convertible official cars also appear in the previous page of this thread in Replies #293 - #299.  I had so many photos to post from the events held at Sebring in 1966 that the thread rolled over to a new page and I'm not sure everyone got to see these photos if they are interested.

I also hope everyone is doing alright and staying safe through these uncertain times.

It seems that several different automobiles were used as "Official Cars" at the events held at Sebring in 1967.  Pictures taken at both the 4-Hour International Trans-American Championship Race for the Florida Governors Trophy which took place on Friday, March 31, 1967 and the 12 Hours of Endurance for the Alitalia Trophy run the next day on Saturday, April 1, 1967 demonstrate that a white 1967 Mustang, a silver 1967 Mustang 2+2, a white 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL and a white 1967 Ford Fairlane GTA were all used in some official capacity.  Neither the Trans Am race or the 12-Hour endurance race used a rolling start to begin the race, so none of these cars were used to actually "pace" the race.

These two photos of Ms. Sebring sitting on the white 1967 Mustang came from here: https://sebringrace.com/

These photos taken at Sebring during the events of 1967 show a silver 1967 Mustang 2+2 parked in pit lane while the races are taking place.

The 1st & 2nd shots were taken during what looks to be practice for the 12 hour race as demonstrated by the Corvette racing by and the 3rd & 4th were taken prior to the 4 hour race as demonstrated by the team member driving the Cougar through pit lane, as well as the people walking along it.

Photos 1 & 2 came from worthpoint while 3 &4 are from picclick

The photo from picclick also shows a white 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL also parked in pit lane behind the Cougar Trans Am machine.

The black and white photo from the Revs Digital Library also shows a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL with "Official Car" on the front fender.  I'm not sure if both of these pictures show the same car or not because the color photo does not show the front fender or the side door.  They might also be 1966 models left over from use by the track the prior year.

A white with red rocker panel stripe 1967 Ford Fairlane GTA was also used in some official capacity during the events at Sebring in 1967.

The first two images were taken during the 12 hour race.  They came from worthpoint.  The last two were taken during the 4 hour Trans Am event and they came from the Dave Freidman Collection at the Henry Ford Flickr site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/thehenryford/albums/72157632877165631/page15/
