Back on January 4, 2022 Wayne Davis, a member of the Historic SCCA Pro Racing Trans-Am Series Fan Group on Facebook, posted these pictures of the red AMX/3 and wrote the following:
"Interesting story...In 1970 at the Watkins Glen race, AMC was providing the pace car. It was supposed to be AMC's AMX. The car they brought was AMC's AMX/3. Chevrolet protested and the car wasn't allowed to pace the race. Instead the AMX/3 never got unloaded off the trailer. The two photos are of the AMX/3 at Watkins Glen sitting on the open trailer near the AMC tent. What a beauty, I understand why Chevrolet didn't want it to pace the event...they wouldn't have had anything close to the mid-engined AMX/3 until the C8 Corvette 50 years later. A white 1970 Corvette convertible did actually pace the race held on Sunday August 16, 1970. See images of it in Reply #218 on page 15 of this thread as well as Reply #318 on page 22.
