Ticking Noise TSB 69-T-29
« on: July 02, 2011, 02:10:56 AM »
I happen to be reviewing some TSB’s (for enjoyment :) ) and I came across this one, and a  mystery was solved. I’ve heard a ticking noise in several of my cars, two of my L35’s, L34 and L48 equipped cars, and never bothered to find the root cause because it was barely noticeable. This ticking always seemed to be isolated to the right rear tail pipe area (so I thought).I had checked the exhaust to verify it wasn’t an interference issue over the years… I’m not going to modify the 3/8 fuel line per the TSB recommendation, but it’s nice to know the root cause. It’s funny because I never made the correlation that it only occurred on my two fuel line cars, but it does now.

Steve

This annoying sound has been in my car since I purchased it 6yrs ago. I kept quiet hoping it wasn't anything serious while at the same time driving on pins and needles. Like you, now that I know it isn't serious I can rest a little easier. Thanks for sharing!

You know, my L48 car has been making a "ticking sound" around the right side rear wheel area since I've owned it. I always thought it was some sort of exhaust interference or leak. I'll have to check out this TSB and see if I can fix it. That would be wonderful!

What if you just put some rubber hose that was split around the lines to insulate them from each other or is it something else that makes the ticking?

Here's a larger version of that TSB.

WOW!
since 1984 my L48 pace car has had a strange undiagnosed ticking sound.
The rest of the story.
It just OK with me, I am unwilling to start hacking the lines, Fine for the Car-UNSAT on the Submarines I work on.
