Yes, it was raced by Peter Reinhardt for Francis McNamara Racing in '68 in Germany and other places on the continent with Sunoco sponsorship.

Helmut Marko took over driving duties for 1969 and the car was raced in KLM livery.
Francis McNamara sold the car to Franz Albert in Austria after the '69 season.  He successfully raced it for a few years before selling it to lesser accomplished racers (also in Austria).  It eventually just got parked, disassembled, and sat for many years.

I spoke with Pat Ryan earlier this week.  The car did not sell at the Gooding auction.  I believe the car opened at $950K for bidding but received no offers.  Pat says the car is available at a reduced expectation so if anybody has the means to follow suit, Pat can be contacted at https://www.prismacars.com .

The first '67 Penske Trans-Am Camaro is coming up for auction during the Monterey Historic race weekend.  For those with deep pockets, here's your chance to own a very cool piece of history.  I went to Austria with Pat Ryan several years back when he located the car and helped verify that it was the real deal prior to purchase.

I was surprised to see it didn't sell, especially at a premier auction event.

Actually not surprised it did not sell. The asking price of 950K is way beyond its value in my opinion. Yes, its a very important, beautifully restored with race history. I'm not alone on this, since there were no bidders. Now, that said, lets look at what its value is. Since we have to compare it to other top dog T/A cars like a Bud Moore Mustang, and also a Penske Javelin. What are those cars going for? That should give a ballpark value. You agree?

As for the other cars you mentioned, I have no idea what any of them are worth except to say whatever someone is willing to pay for them.

Yeah I am not surprised either. I dont thing many (if any) of the HTA cars could fetch that kind of money. Maybe something like the Penske Lightweight 67 or the 68 Championship car would be the only ones I can see maybe getting close, but I still dont think they would. Would be a sizeable bump but not that big of one.

Close to a million for a T/A pony car is not there...yet (IF at all). That kind of money is reserved for Cobras, and Grand Sports. Again, my opinion.

It's a significant car; the 17th Z-28 of 602 built for model year 1967, probably the last one built in 1966, and it's the much publicized Gulf Oil car. So much provenance!

Agreed, the listing Jon posted is a steal in my opinion for 205K.
