350 small block

My friend just bought a small block 350 and was told it was a 300 hp 350 4 bolt main block,. After removing the oil pan we discovered it is a 2 bolt main! The stamping on the engine pad is 10C105452/V08200NR, what is this engine? We were told it came out of a 1970 Impala SS.

350/300 with a Turbo 350 from a 1970 full size car assembled at the Southgate, CA plant. The engine was assembled on August 20th, 1969 at the Flint, Michigan plant. Yes, that block "should" be a 4 bolt main so it looks like someone at Flint screwed up!

And by the way, there was no Impala "SS" in 1970. 1969 was the last year for the SS and it was only available with a 427.

I have 69 block, same application, 2 bolt main also.....

The 2-bolt vs. 4-bolt applications for passenger car 4-barrel 350's varied widely in the early 70's, and were inconsistent even during each model year; even some truck 350's were 2-bolts. Somewhere there's a matrix that shows which car/truck applications got 2-bolts and which got 4-bolts, but I've never seen it. During the run of the 3970010 block from 1969-1979, base 4-barrel Corvettes used the 2-bolt, and the optional L-82 used the 4-bolt (base engines were under 200hp, and the L-82's were 250hp).

Even then, there's inconsistencies. I've seen LM1's with 4-bolts, but most are 2 bolts.
