I'm not sure there are any more body accessories that could be added to that Mander Super Hugger Camaro!  Seriously though, I've never heard of this one.  Are there any out there?  Thanks Mike for the link and thanks Jon and 69Z28Freak for posting the photos from it.

I thought I recognized the picture in the Mander Super Huger Camaro ad.  The car is wearing the custom bolt on accessories that were available from the AMT Corporation Speed and Custom Division through Chevy dealers.  A member named BLUETOPPACE posted the entire catalog over at the Camaro Pace Car site.  See all of the pics on pages 2 and 3 here: http://camaropacecars.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2510094833/m/2330062215/p/2 

Not sure if Mander used the parts on their own Super Hugger or they just used a stock photo for their ad suggesting what a custom built car could look like.

By the way, that thread also has pictures and info on some very rare and unique Mod Topped Camaros.  Someone named "Jon/1967Z28" posted a cool picture and some info on the Mod Topped 25th 1967 Z28 on pages 7 and 8 of this old thread.  Jon Mello were these your contributions?  If so, I never made the connection. LOL!  The  Check out the whole thing if you are intertested.

Scott, yes that we me who posted that other stuff. The car in the Mander ad above is the same car on the AMT brochure cover and the shot was taken on AMT's lot in Phoenix. It is therefore not an actual Mander Super Hugger although Mander may have purchased the scoops and made their own car look similar. The AMT car was built for a newscaster in the Phoenix area and it's current whereabouts are unknown.

Yes that was me who posted the Mod Top photos in that thread. The sixties produced some very unique car ideas which reflected the fashion of the times. It is interesting however that I have never seen any of these modified or speciality prepared cars. I think those cars were so far over the top, that when the sixties ended, so did the desire to be that loud and outrageous. If any of those cars still remain, they surely were painted and returned to a more conservative look. Would be cool however to find some of these cars intact. Since these cars were modified from show room models, I assume that there is no way to document the specialty modified cars, other than perhaps photos from back in the day.My guess is that back in the day, there were a select group of Camaro owners who took their new Camaros into these shops and got some crazy looks applied to their cars. I wonder how many cars in total received these type of treatments. If anyone has anymore info please feel free to post away.

While I don't mind talking about unique and special cars built by various Chevy dealerships, a discussion along those lines should be in its own thread and we need to guide this thread back to vintage, original photos of Trans-Am cars from the late '60s and early '70s. Thanks.

While searching for something else on the internet I stumbled on this cover for the January 1971 edition of Stock Car Racing magazine which features a pit stop for the 1970 Penske Javelin of Mark Donohue.  It mentions an article entitled, "Javelin: A Racing Success Story."  I don't recall seeing this cover.  I searched through the 1970 and 1971 season review threads and didn't notice it.  If it is here somewhere, sorry for the repost.  If not, does anyone have this magazine or the article?  I found the picture at a web site that shows the covers for most editions of Stock Car Racing magazine issued between 1966 and 2008.  See them here: http://home.comcast.net/~racestats/SCRMag.html

jon, great photo ! looks like the car is coming through tech, post race. can of bud on the hood, and a sweaty ed leslie. that's troy rogers leaning on the car with cap, who we lost in may of last year. hall's main fabricator, he was responsible for the build of the chaparrals, and also pretty much restored the cars for the petroleum museum in midland. and sandy hall in the pale yellow jacket.

Harley Davidson legend Cal Rayborn raced a '67 Z-28 for a short time and had it entered in the '69 Riverside Trans-Am. It ran during
practice but for some unknown reason did not make the race.
